The sun is shining, so I ran to get my camera so I could finally take a picture of “Circle of Tulips”. I find the handquilting shows up really nicely in the bright sun! The only time I hand-quilt is in the evening. I like to sit down around 9 o’clock with a pot of tea and stitch the night away and contemplate life in general! Finally finished stitching the fruit bowl from Sue Garman’s “Friends of Baltimore”. This could possibly be one of my favourite blocks! One more block left!!
I used Ultra-Suede for the little frilly green things on the strawberries and blueberries. Ultra-Suede is a life-saver for these tiny, tiny pieces. I also love the little bit of texture that it gives.
I was going to wait til I completely finished the fruit bowl before I started Ladies of the Sea, but I couldn’t help myself. Curiosity got the better of me. I just wanted to see what the colours would look like against the background. Dandy!

Like Jane, I have to say – you are amazing! How do you get so much done? Lovely, lovely progress. I have some ultra suede somewhere — now where is it?
I really am not sure how I get so much accomplished. I really only applique maybe 2-3 hours a day (but not every day) and hand-quilt 2 hours in the evening. Now that I see that in print, I guess it’s quite a chunk of time! I guess it just doesn’t feel like a long time!!
You work so quickly==I am inspired. Where do you get the ultra suede and how do you attach it? Whipstitch? blanketstitich?
I was able to purchase my Ultra-Suede at the Applique Academy when I was there last time. I attach it with the same stitch that I applique with, I think it’s called
a blind-hem, I use the same color thread and make really tiny stitches.
I just love your blog, and i agree that you keep me going on my applique. i wished you lived closer so I could take classes with you.
